Self-Portraits 12/6

Reflection:
During the grayscale process, it was quite simple and I started with the base layers, mainly the lightest colors. Then I started implementing the shades around the face and then eventually attempted doing the background. The hardest part of doing the face was simply outlining my glasses. I couldn't do the regular fill in of the shape because my glasses are round and needed the center of the glasses to be "transparent" to see the eyes. I ended up using the eraser tool and carefully erased around the eyes and the outline, going back and forth between the image and the shape I made with the pen tool. It was a tedious process in trying the get each "shade" the correct line up with the image. I made sure of starting with my base layers so each shade wouldn't look choppy or empty. Overall, happy with my outcome and its extremely similar to the grayscale model picture I used as my reference.

During my color process, I first wanted to go with a purple, orange and burnt yellow color scheme as its aesthetically pleasing to combine all of those colors, but ended up going with blues. The way my grayscale is laid out, it reminded me of a comic-like theme and so I went with contrasting colors to fully get the feel. And then I added a red outline to give that drawing feel to the overall design. My biggest challenge was personally finding a color in which I could distinct the shades with and to show depth within areas that aren’t that detailed such as the hair near the shirt area.

  1. hello i am henry,t oday i will be giving my thoughts on Self-portrait in color. This Self-portrait in color is good overall however there isnt much color going on, it looks very plain but it still looks goo, the cartoon vibe makes the art look really good. You should add more colors on the face. I like how you drew the neck and added details to the background. This is overall a good Self-portrait in color.

  2. Although there isn't much color present, this self-portrait in color still looks amazing overall. The graphically pleasing vibe gives the artwork a really pleasant appearance. The face ought to have more color added. I like how you enhanced the backdrop.

  3. One think I like about your design is that you add a background that contrast with the color used for the face. Although one thing to improve on is showing more of a difference between the hair and the shoulders.
